May 2026

11/05/2026 - 15/05/2026
All Day
Moorhoue Hill Hotel, Burley
Following our very successful visit this year to The Grange hotel at Sherborne, planning has begun for our 2026 short break ….. Dorset theme.
We plan to stay at The Moorhill House Hotel, Burley which is a small luxury hotel in the heart of the New Forest from Monday 11th May to Friday 15th. The Hotel has similar characteristics to “The Grange” both in style, price and location. It has ample parking for our cars.
The hotel is located in the heart of the New Forest but close to Lyndhurst, Lymington and Brockenhurst. This will allow us time to plan some very interesting days. Getting to the hotel from Sussex would be between 2 and 2.5 hours (about 90 miles) so closer than Sherborne.
I have provisionally booked up to 20 rooms out of the total of 35 rooms but as you  would expect they will need to know the exact number of rooms. The New Forest is very popular so I have to make the final arrangements soon.
The deal is based on a corporate rate ( a good discount ) and have set out the terms below. All prices include VAT.
Classic Room
4 nights incl breakfast £560 ( single room rate £480)
Superior Room
4 nights incl breakfast £620
We included an evening meal at the Grange for the Monday (arrival day) and the Thursday (night before departure). This cost would be £36 for 2 courses or £45 for three. For other nights members could make their own choice of where to eat.
These prices are very similar to our Sherborne hotel and in summary a classic room including breakfast plus a two course evening meal for the  two nights ( couple) would cost ( £560 plus £144  ) a total of £704.
A £50 deposit ( non refundable) is required with the balance payable 30 days before we arrive.
Please let me know by Friday 22nd August if you would like to come but please look at the website to see what a really nice hotel it is. I am looking for about the same numbers as we attracted in May this year.a row of lawn chairs sitting in the grass at Moorhill House Hotel in Burley

June 2026

14/06/2026
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Haywards Heath Golf Club, Haywards Heath West Sussex

Dear Sussex Centre Members,

This year our Annual Spring Lunch will again be at Haywards Heath Golf Club and will be

held on Sunday June 14th . We will again have dedicated parking behind the Club House and

will gain entry to the function room from the rear of the building although access is also

available from the front of the building . We will meet from 12 noon for a get-together and

chat, with lunch booked for 1pm. The address is High Beech Lane, Haywards Heath, RH16

1SL.

The dress code is smart casual (no shorts or denim), although interesting waistcoats are

always welcome.

The cost of the three course lunch with coffee or tea to finish is £40 per person, to include a

tip and a small donation to Group funds. You will find a copy of the menu attached,

together with a booking form which also gives details for payment. In order to keep the cost

of the meal at this level, we have again decided not to include the offer of a welcoming

drink. However, the bar will be open for you to purchase your own drinks from 12:00 hours.

As usual, we will be holding our charity raffle which this year is supporting the British Heart

Foundation in memory of Dennis Pike who sadly passed away on 10th February of this year.

Trudie Jacobs has again kindly agreed to run the raffle and all suitable prize donations will

be welcomed. Please make contact with Trudy Jacobs on trudie.a.jacobs@gmail.com if you

need any further information. Volunteers willing to help sell raffle tickets on the day are also

required!

We would like to get an idea of numbers, so it would be helpful if booking forms could be

returned as soon as possible, with a deadline of Sunday May 24th, by which time payment

should have been made.

If you have any questions or problems with opening the documents etc. please contact us

on pandbcare@outlook.com or 07711624919.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Best Wishes,

Pam and Bob Care

September 2026

Please note Thursday 10 Sept, not 9 Sept as in May Miscellany

.

An outline of the arrangements for the visit is:-
   1.  the numbers of both cars and visitors will need to be declared 14 days in advance.  There will be an area reserved for Sexmog in the Mill Road Car Park opposite the Castle’s main entrance gate.  Car park charges will apply.
    2. Admission tickets at a discounted price will be:
       (a) £27 per person or,
       (b) £29 if access is wanted to the bedrooms. These might be not available for the date of the visit if required by the Duke for his guests.
    3. The entry ticket covers access to the grounds and gardens which open from 10:00am each day.  The Castle and State Rooms open from 12noon.
    4. The road within the grounds is a little steep in places and a free buggy ride will be available for anyone who might need it.
    5. There is a coffee shop open from 10:00am in the entrance to the Keep where there will be an area set aside for us to meet from, say, 10:30am.
     6. Other refreshment areas are the Castle Cafe open from 11:00am and the Castle Tea Terrace from 10:30am.
     7. Guides will be in all the main rooms.
     8.  The main lift can be used for entry and departure  from the Castle building.  A further lift gives access to the 1st floor State Rooms.  (There is no lift to the 2nd floor Castle bedrooms).
Of course if there is time the delightful town of Arundel is also filled with boutique and antique shops, cafes and restaurants.  Re-entry to the Castle grounds is possible on the day.
There has to be a minimum of 20 persons with a single payment to cover the whole group.  Entry tickets will be available to be collected from the ticket office at the main entrance.  I will need payment a week ahead.
Details of how to pay will be issued closer to the time.
