For our next Sunday meeting we have arranged to visit Michelham Priory at Upper Dicker in East Sussex. Michelham Priory started life as an Augustinian Priory in 1229, was largely distroyed with the dissolution of the monastries during the reign of Henry VIII and was rebuilt as a magnificent Tudor Manor House.  It boasts the longest complete moat in England and it also has some lovely gardens. It also retains its 14 century gatehouse through which visitors enter the Priory. Other attractions include a working watermill, a working forge and an Elizabethan Great Barn. There is also a cafe which serves snacks and light lunches.

For our visit those arriving in their Morgans will drive in through the 14th Century Gatehouse and park either on the lawn in front of the Priory or on the gravel drives or courtyard depending on the weather. Entry will be at a concessionary rate of £7 for a car and occupants. be warned there are speed humps in the drive (not Morgan friendly) so to avoid these take the lower (coach) entrance to the car park just before the first hump, drive through the car park, out the normal car entance and turn right over the bridge over the moat to the gatehouse. The duty manager on the day will direct you where to park. We have arranged for us to arrive from 11am onwards. For lunch either bring a picnic or buy something in the cafe.

Please let us know if you are coming by Wednesday 8th June so we can give the Priory an idea of numbers and it would also be helpful if you would let us know if you are likely to want lunch from the cafe. Replies to the usual email address pavmog@outlook.com
